Callan Solem Show Stables Scores Top Ribbons at HITS Commonwealth National Horse Show
Chester Springs, PA –April 28, 2010 – This past weekend Callan Solem Show Stables traveled to Culpeper, Virginia, to compete at the HITS Commonwealth National Horse Show, held April 21-25, 2010. Solem and her students took home top ribbons in the hunters, jumpers, and equitation, and earned several championship and reserve championship prizes. Prior to their success this month in Culpeper, international grand prix rider Callan Solem opened the new hunter/jumper/equitation operation with the support of Virginia and Collin McNeil in Chester Springs, PA.
This weekend Solem showed VDL Torlando, owned by the Torlando Group, in the $15,000 Brook Ledge Open Jumper Prix. The pair had two successful clear rounds and took home the second place honors. Earlier in the week, Solem competed in the hunter ring where she took home the championship prize in the HITS 2’6’’ Hunter division. Solem rode Artisan, owned by Jaqueline Millen, and the pair earned three first place ribbons to gain the top honors. Solem also rode in the High Pre-Green Hunter division, where she and High Consul, owned by Virginia McNeil, garnered the reserve championship award after they earned two second place ribbons and three third place ribbons.
Virginia McNeil competed under the tutelage of Solem in the High Adult Jumper division with Will Stop. McNeil rode Will Stop to a first place finish in the second class after completing two fault-free efforts, and the pair tied for the championship title. McNeil’s daughter, Lee Lee, also showed this week in the WIHS Pony Medal. Lee Lee was aboard her top pony, Grayfield’s Steamy Windows, and the pair was awarded the first place trophy after their excellent round.
Also competing for the McNeil’s was Rose Borzillo, who showed Flying Dutchman in the High Children’s Jumper division. The pair was named the winner of the second class after they successfully completed two clear rounds in a blazing time.
“The horses were great this week,” said Solem. “I think they were really excited to show again after having a little break. Everyone has been working really hard and the riders have been practicing really hard. We’ve gotten a new program together for all of them and it was exciting to see it pay off.
Callan Solem Show Stables will be traveling to the Garden State Horse Show next, where they hope to continue their success. The Garden State Horse Show will be held May 5-9, 2010, in Augusta, New Jersey.
